KEYSTONE HEIGHTS—U.S. Congressional Candidate Erick Aguilar was dropped by his fundraising service: WinRed for misleading emails that appeared to solicit funds for Donald Trump or Ron DeSanits.

The story was first reported by Politico.com.

Aguilar campaigned in Keystone Heights on May 21 during the city’s Meet Your Neighbor Day for the congressional district that covers all of Clay and Nassau Counties and western Duval.

The fundraising emails, which highlighted the former president and Florida governor, did not mention Aguilar’s name, but contributions responding to those messages went into the CD4 candidate’s campaign account.

Politico.com found one 88-year-old Minnesota email donor who had contributed over $1,000 to Aguilar’s campaign.

The woman told the news site: “I, of course, give to President Trump and DeSantis, but that’s really it. I don’t give to many others, and that name [Aguilar] is not familiar to me.”

The emails allowed Aguilar to amass more than $1 million in contributions through mostly small donations from across the U.S.

As of June 30, he still led all candidates in the race in fundraising. However, his third-quarter receipts were one-third that of his most formidable primary opponent: Aaron Bean of Fernandina Beach.
