STARKE—Calvin Eugene Miller, 66, of Palatka was sentenced to four months in jail followed by two years’ probation after pleading to grand theft auto.
According to a warrant affidavit, the defendant cared for a woman who died in July 2022.
After the woman’s death, Miller took possession of the decedent’s valuables, including a 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche.
The defendant refused family members’ requests to return the items and the vehicle, even after ownership of the car was transferred to one of the decedent’s children.
Circuit Judge James M. Colaw also ordered the defendant to pay $1,200 in restitution to the victims. Miller had already served the jail time in pretrial detention.
