Chakin earns a 2nd-place finish for UCHS boys in track, field

Jesse Chakin finished as runner-up in the long jump, giving the Union County High School boys track and field team one of its 19 top-10 finishes at the March 4 Oak Hall Mini Meet.

Chakin had a distance of 19 feet, 8 inches in the long jump, which left him trailing Oak Hall’s Dakota Brower, who jumped 21-7.5.

Bo Thomas competed in the event as well, finishing fifth at 19-1.25.

C.J. Ivey placed third in the discus with a throw of 97-8. Edward Durant and Matthew Rogers were fifth and eighth, respectively, with distances of 81-0 and 76-6.

Jason Buie earned a third-place finish in the 200m with a time of 24.06. The Tigers also had top-10 finishers in Thomas, who had a fourth-place time of 24.33, Chakin, who had a fifth-place time of 24.78, and Drew Simmons, who had an eighth-place time of 25.17.

Joseph Harris and Gavin Smith placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 800m with times of 2:19 and 2:20.

In the shot put, Anthony Holmes was fourth with a distance of 34-7. Ivey and Durant were eighth and 10th, respectively, with distances of 32-1.5 and 31-3.75.

Gavin Jenkins had a fifth-place time of 11.84 in the 100m, while Chakin was right behind him with a sixth-place time of 11.89. Simmons was ninth with a time of 12.19.

Zayden Williams ran a seventh-place time of one minute in the 400m, while Harris had an eighth-place time of 5:32 in the 1600m.

Union also had the following results: 100m — Thomas 12.30, Jabari Young 12.34, Buie 12.46, Braylen Tyson 12.64, Natwan Richardson 12.80, Landon Cason 13.60, Rogers 13.86, Anderson Griffis 15.78, David Guadagnoli 16.92; 200m — Tyson 25.84, Richardson 26.65, Williams 27.65, Cason 27.81, Griffis 32.60, Hudson Parrish 36.12; 800m — Clayton Cason 2:42, Carter Fitzpatrick 2:51, Gaultney Cole 2:51; and 1600m — Clayton Cason 6:32.24, Fitzpatrick 6:32.74, Cole 6:40.
