The Keystone Heights Indians returned home with yet another loss — this time handed to them by the Chiefland Indians by a score of 42-7 on Oct. 17.

Chiefland (8-1) dominated the night with a strong offense, completing passes and breaking through Keystone’s defense, all while maintaining a strong defensive line themselves.

Chiefland quarterback Matt Goodale scored the first touchdown of the game with a run into the end zone. Kicker Luis Galicia followed his teammate’s touchdown with a successful extra point, giving Chiefland a 7-0 lead.

Galicia added PATs on additional touchdowns by Jody Wright, Jonathan Adams and Joseph Dickason, who each scored in the first half of the game, giving Chiefland a 35-0 halftime lead.

Keystone (0-8) seemed to return from the half holding a stronger team on both sides of the ball, although Chiefland’s Jolan Dotty sneaked past the Keystone defense, scoring yet another touchdown, with Galicia notching the extra point.

Toward the end of the game, Keystone managed to score with quarterback Hunter Crumpton throwing his first successful pass — 6 yards to tight end Luke Bacorn, who ran the ball for another 10 yards, putting Keystone on the scoreboard.

Kicker Ryder Thomas followed with an uneasy kick, but still claimed Keystone’s extra point, ending the game with Chiefland winning 42-7.

Offensively, Keystone had a total of 215 yards off 30 carries and one completion out of eight pass attempts, two of which were intercepted.

Head Coach Steve Reynolds continued to tout the team’s work ethic and the effort the players put into the game.

Crumpton carried Keystone’s offensive stats with a total of 174 rushing yards on 22 carries and eight pass attempts with one completion, while Cole Crabtree had a total of 26 rushing yards on six carries. Bacorn had one reception for 10 yards, scoring Keystone’s only touchdown of the game.

Bacorn and Trase Wooden led Keystone’s defensive stats, with both players having four tackles. Crabtree had three solo tackles, while Pete Bostic and Michael Gamble each had two tackles.

Keystone plays its final away game of the season in Palatka (2-6) on Friday, October 24, at 7:30 p.m.
