Clay County Engineer Richard Smith announced during the board of county commissioners’ July 14 meeting that county workers recently paved three dirt roads in the Melrose area, west of State Road 21 and east of Lake Santa Fe near the Putnam and Bradford County lines.
Smith said the asphalt laid down on Holly Hill Road, Oakview Road and Grove Road may not be interstate quality, but is a vast improvement over the previous surfaces.
The engineer added that the new asphalt will relieve county workers of having to grade the dirt roads more frequently than once a month.
“It was a big lift for the public works crews to get out there and grade them again 17 times a year,” he told commissioners. “They’re off the list now. I rode them Sunday. They’re fantastic. They turned out very well.”
