Clay Electric Foundation distributes $92K

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS— The Clay Electric Foundation Board of Directors approved 11 applications for a total of $91,849 in grants in January.

In a social media post, the co-op said that each month the foundation board meets to review applications and to award funds.

Organizations receiving grants for January included the Archer Historical Society: $5,000, Episcopal Children’s Services in Lake County: $13,380, Hawthorne FFA Alumni: $15,000, Hawthorne Area Resource Center: $9,500, US Naval Sea Cadets in Columbia County: $3,600 and St. Catherine’s Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Clay County: $10,000.

The Archer Historical Society will use its grant to make repairs to the town’s train depot building.

Episcopal Children’s Services will use its grant to replace the fence at the Head Start-Early Head Start center in Eustis.

Hawthorne FFA Alumni will use its grant to construct a new barn for Hawthorne High School’s FFA program.

The Hawthorne Area Resource Center is a partnership between the First United Methodist Church in Hawthorne and the Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion. It provides an area food bank and resource center. Funds will be used for food pantry provisions and supplies as well as social services support to families in crisis.

The US Naval Sea Cadet Corps is a patriotic youth program that provides training to future leaders. Grant funds will be used to purchase new uniforms and components for its Color Guard.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Orange Park is an international organization of lay persons. Grant funds will be used to assist the needy with basic needs such as electric bills, water bills and rent costs.

Clay Electric Foundation grants are funded by the co-op’s Operation Roundup, in which members voluntarily round up their bills to the next whole dollar.
