KEYSTONE HEIGHTS— Clay Electric members in District 1 will nominate candidates to replace deceased trustee Carl Hagglund during a Jan. 5 trustee meeting at First Baptist Church in Keystone Heights.

Hagglund died on Oct. 22 at the age of 82. District 1 encompasses portions of Clay and Putnam counties.

Members in three additional districts: 2, 4 and 6 are also meeting during the month to nominate candidates for the board of trustees.

Kelley Smith is the trustee for District 2. The meeting will be held Monday, Jan. 9 at the Sam Hogg Pavilion, 160 S Electric Ave. in Palatka.

Carl Malphurs is the trustee for District 4. The meeting will be held Thursday, Jan. 12, at New Oak Grove Baptist Church, 18100 NW 262nd Ave. in Alachua.

Jimmy Wilson is the trustee for District 6. The meeting will be held Tuesday, Jan. 10, at the Middleburg Civic Center, 2102 Palmetto Street in Middleburg.

The co-op said in a news release that members who live in each district are invited to attend their district meeting.

“Your district is listed in the upper right-hand side of your electric bill statement,” the utility said. “Registration for the meetings will begin at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m.”

Each year, trustee positions on the co-op’s nine-member board of trustees are up for election. Members within the respective districts select one or two members as candidates for the board of trustees. All members vote for these candidates during the annual meeting election period, which runs from Jan. 17 through March 13.

Scholarships for high school seniors now available

Clay Electric will offer 28 $2,000 college scholarships to high school seniors this year.

The scholarship program is limited to any public, private or homeschooled high school senior whose home is served by Clay Electric and who will graduate at the end of the current school year.

Applications are available on Clay Electric’s website, at each of the co-op’s six district offices and at area high schools. Applications must be received by April 3.

The co-op said the primary considerations for awarding the scholarships are scholastic records, extracurricular activities, employment, community service, and recommendations.
