Commissioners discuss event ordinance

GREEN COVE SPRINGS—Clay County Commissioners discussed a proposed ordinance during their June 28 meeting that would regulate large gatherings.

The law would require organizers of any event within the county that has 500 or more participants, involves a road closure, or includes alcohol consumption on a county-owned property to obtain a permit from the county.

Educational institutions holding events on the institution’s properties, such as sporting events, would be exempt from the permitting requirements.

For those seeking a permit, the ordinance would require event organizers to supply the county with a vendor list, parking plan, and a description of alcohol sales, temporary structures and emergency vehicle access points, as well as other information.
