KEYSTONE HEIGHTS—New Clay County Board of County Commissioners Chair Jim Renninger recognized the outgoing chair, Betsy Condon, during the board’s December 12 meeting.

Renninger said that during Condon’s tenure, the Crystal Lake resident championed high-speed internet for rural residents, improving traffic flow, drainage, careful approval of new developments, growth in the county, and other issues.

“Under her leadership,” the new chairman said, “we commissioned countywide pavement studies, a countywide strategic plan, the gun range (on County Road 215), the College Drive Initiative, Gateway to Clay, and the High Ridge Estates Initiative. So many irons in a fire for her over the last year. Pedestrian safety improvements were also one of her priorities.”

Renninger also credited Condon with helping secure a $3.5 million jobs grant from the governor’s office and a $3 million legislative appropriation for an inpatient detox facility.
