Keystone Heights High School didn’t qualify any wrestlers for the state finals, but Atreyu Contes did win two matches at the Feb. 23-24 Region 1-1A meet, which was held at Wewahitchka High School.
Contes, who wrestles in the 106-pound class, opened with a 6-0 win over Freeport’s Jacob Justice, but then suffered a loss by a 22-7 technical fall against Suwannee’s Eli Jolicouer. He rebounded by defeating Rocky Bayou Christian’s Parker Lippy by a 15-0 technical fall. Contes’ was then eliminated after getting pinned in 4:30 by Baker County’s Brayden Martin.
Keystone had a total of five competing at the event, with three going 1-2.
Mikey McCall (113 class) was pinned in 45 seconds by Wakulla’s Matthew Thaxton, but then pinned Bay’s Caleb Spikes in 2:55. He was then pinned in 21 seconds by Rocky Bayou Christian’s Thomas Pluhar.
Jared Goetzman (120) and Yulee’s Lincoln Brehmer wrestled into the third round before Brehmer pinned Goetzman in 5:38. Goetzman then defeated South Walton’s Dylan Hardin 7-6 before being eliminated when he was pinned in 1:44 by Bishop Kenny’s Dylan Lunsford.
Phoenix Contes (132), after getting pinned in two minutes by Liberty County’s Jay Brown, pinned South Walton’s Noah Withers in 1:21. He was then pinned in 4:46 by Stanton Prep’s Diego Torres.
The Indians’ Marcellus Beem (150) also competed, going 0-2.
