GREEN COVE SPRINGS— During its conference on March 5 in Orlando, the Florida Animal Control Association awarded Clay County government departments and organizations with the association’s Outstanding Cooperative Team Achievement Award.
The award recognized the county’s response to the discovery of around 200 animals found in deplorable conditions at a home on Old Jennings Road in October 2021. The approximately 100 dogs, 42 rabbits, 33 chickens, five pigeons, and an unknown number of goats were transported to the fairgrounds for medical evaluation, feeding and cleaning.
The association lauded the coordinated efforts during the rescue of Clay County Animal Services, Fire Rescue, Emergency Management, Environmental Services, Sheriff’s Office and Clay Humane.
The Clay County Board of County Commissioners also recognized the groups during its March 8 meeting.
