GREEN COVE SPRINGS—Clay County Commissioner Betsy Condon said complaints of excessive speeding have increased in the Keystone Heights area, with the county engineer and sheriff’s office noting many complaints about excessive speeding on County Road 214 in the McRae area.
Condon said during the May 24 County commission meeting that Sheriff Michelle Cook set up a speed enforcement operation on the road and is also increasing traffic enforcement throughout the county in response to speeding drivers and the resulting crashes.
“She’s not sharing locations,” said Condon of the sheriff, “but they are stepping up their speed patrols through the summer. People are driving excessively all over the county and they are seeing crashes go up. (The sheriff) said while crime is down crashes are going up.”
