KEYSTONE HEIGHTS – On November 9th, Keystone Heights Elementary students gathered inside the gym for a Veterans Day observation.
Sponsored by the Kiwanis Key Kids, the event aimed to educate students about veterans and their sacrifices over the years.
“It’s an opportunity for our young people to find out that every day when we have the freedom to come and go as we please, it’s because of these veterans that serve and their families,” said Tina Bullock, an attendee.
The event opened with Principal Beth Turbeville thanking the audience for attending and the individuals who helped put the program together. In addition, Bullock shared with the audience about Wreaths Across America and encouraged everyone to participate in the program.
Afterward, the colors were presented by the Keystone Heights JROTC while the Keystone Heights Elementary Chorus sang the National Anthem.
In addition, the program consisted of an interactive skit performed by members JROTC as superheroes and historical figures.
The event also had the high school band play and the elementary chorus sing patriotic songs.
Lastly, the event had the American Flag parade around the gym, Taps played by Reagan Sames, and the JROTC Sabre Guard performing an Arch of Sabre while presenting the military flags.
Overall, the event was successful as students and parents filled the gym.
In addition, Clay County School District members and other dignitaries, such as Councilman Tony Brown, attended the event.
“It was remarkable. Our students were exposed to so much information,” said Turbeville. “I was very pleased with the outcome. It was wonderful.”
Throughout the program, students could be seen smiling as they watched their favorite superhero teach them about historical figures, major wars, and the sacrifices veterans made for their country.
Guests were also engaged in the program and felt that it was well done.
“Awesome. It was just awesome,” said Brown.
