Elixson, Wainwright show grand-champion steer and heifer

Chayten Elixson exhibited the grand champion in the Bradford-Union Steer Show. The 1,283-pound animal, which also earned the homegrown grand championship, sold for $11 per pound.

Chayten Elixson of Bradford 4-H exhibited the grand-champion steer, while Reese Wainwright of Bradford FFA exhibited the grand-champion heifer at the Bradford Agricultural Fair.

Elixson’s animal also earned the homegrown grand championship at the March 5 Bradford-Union Youth Steer Show. His prizes were sponsored by Bradford County Sheriff Gordon Smith and Bradford County Superintendent of Schools Will Hartley.

Bailey Varnes of Union County FFA exhibited the reserve grand-champion steer, while Luke Alvarez of Union 4-H exhibited the homegrown reserve grand champion. Crawford’s Automotive Repairs sponsored Varnes’ awards, while Union Power sponsored Alvarez’s awards.

The grand championship won by Wainwright in the March 7 Bradford-Union Youth Breed Show came with a prize sponsored by Crawford’s Automotive Repairs.

Ansley Ward of Bradford 4-H exhibited the reserve grand-champion heifer, with her prize sponsored by Realtor Kayla Alvarez.

The homegrown reserve grand-champion heifer was shown by Elixson, who received a prize sponsored by R&B Fencing.

 

Steer awards

The third-overall steer was shown by Regan Broome (Bradford 4-H). She received prizes sponsored by Bradford County Clerk of the Court Denny Thompson.

Alvarez’s homegrown reserve grand champ was the fourth-overall steer, while Ansley Ward exhibited the fifth-overall animal. Cuttin’ Up and Crawford’s Automotive Repairs sponsored the fourth- and fifth-place prizes, respectively.

Thompson Cattle was recognized as the homegrown champion breeder.

In the weight-gain contest, Dakota Marston, exhibiting the Bradford FFA chapter steer, took first, with her prize sponsored by The Downtown Grill. Crawford’s Automotive Repairs sponsored the second-place award, which went to Allie Cason (Union FFA), while Blackberry Creek Farms sponsored the third-place award, which went to Landon Cason (Union FFA).

In intermediate showmanship, Elixson was first, receiving a prize sponsored by Westside Feed II of Lake Butler. Ward and Huck Alvarez (Union 4-H) were second and third, respectively, with Ethan and Lori Caren sponsoring Ward’s prize and Bradford County Judge Tatum Davis sponsoring Alvarez’s prize.

Luke Alvarez took first in junior showmanship, winning a prize sponsored by Teal Tile Carpet One. Garrett Lee (Bradford 4-H) earned the second-place prize that was sponsored by Preston and Elizabeth Nazworth.

Suburban Carpet Cleaners sponsored all of the senior herdsman awards. First place went to Durrance, while Koy Hartley (Bradford FFA) and Maddison Lee (Bradford FFA) were second and third, respectively.

Ansley Ward and Nicholas Ward were first and second, respectively, in intermediate herdsman, while Weston Thompson was third. All prizes were sponsored by Whitehead Family Cattle.

Garrett Lee earned first place in junior herdsman, with Bradford County Sheriff Gordon Smith sponsoring the prize. Shawn Ward received the second-place prize, which was sponsored by Michael Hardee Timber.

Ansley Ward earned the Overall Top Performance Award, which was presented by the Hamilton family.

 

Ansley Ward’s second-place Class VII animal was named reserve grand champion at the commercial heifer show at the Bradford Agricultural Fair. Ward also exhibited the fourth overall heifer, which placed first in Class II, and had animals earn second place in Class VIII and third place in Class V. The night also saw Ward earn the grand championship in intermediate showmanship.

Heifer awards

Kate Wainwright’s homegrown grand champion received the third-overall prize, which was sponsored by Griffis Farms.

Ansley Ward had the fourth-overall heifer, while Kate Wainwright exhibited another animal that earned fifth overall. R&B Fencing and Crawford’s Automotive Repairs sponsored the fourth- and fifth-overall prizes, respectively.

Kate Wainwright was recognized as the homegrown champion breeder.

In senior showmanship, Kate Wainwright and Reese Wainwright placed first and second, respectively. Phillip McDonald Plumbing sponsored the first-place prize, while R&B Fencing sponsored the second-place prize.

Jacee Box (Union FFA) was third in senior showmanship, receiving a prize sponsored by Crawford’s Automotive Repairs.

Ansley Ward was first in intermediate showmanship, with her prize sponsored by North Florida Custom Meats. Huck Alvarez and Weston Thompson were second and third, respectively. Thompson’s Garage sponsored Alvarez’s award, while Home Sweet Bone sponsored Thompson’s award.

Shawn Ward earned the first-place prize in junior showmanship that was sponsored by Realtor Kayla Alvarez.

Reese Wainwright received the Overall Top Performance Award, which was presented by the Hamilton family.

 

Scholarships and more awards

Elixson and Tripp Connell (Union FFA) were both recipients of the Workhorse Award, with cash prizes sponsored by Bradford-Union Cattle Show and Sale and R&B Fencing.

Hailey Griffis (Bradford FFA) received the Tuff Girl Award, which is presented in memory of Dana Newsome.

Bradford-Union Cattle Show and Sale presented scholarships to graduating seniors Broome and Reese Wainwright.
