KEYSTONE HEIGHTS — Clay County Fire Rescue said the 3.25-acre grass fire was caused by a burn pile that got out of control.

Station 11 in Keystone Heights and Station 23 in McRae responded to the blaze, which was near the 5th Street boat ramp in Lake Geneva, across State Road 100 from the BP gas station.

“Firefighters advise dead, dry grasses can quickly carry flames away from a pile burn, even after a recent rain,” the agency said.  “Please be careful when burning outdoors: have water nearby, stay with your pile, and make sure it is dead out before you leave.”
