Starke police arrested a 22-year-old Jacksonville woman after she exchanged a counterfeit $100 bill for smaller bills at a local convenience store, according to an arrest report.
Jayla Maranda Davis was arrested for fraud.
Police said in the report that the 22-year-old gave a clerk the fake bill at the U.S. 301 and State Road 16 Circle K around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 27.
The defendant claimed she got the bill from her grandfather and did not know it was counterfeit. Police reported that the word “copy” was clearly printed on the back of the banknote, which features a portrait of Benjamin Franklin on the front.
