KEYSTONE HEIGHTS— After several rain delays, the Garden Club of the Lakes was able to present its Yard-of-the-Month Award for September 2021 to Grover and Donna Griffis at 227 Shilah Ave. in Keystone Heights.

What a pleasure it is to find these sometimes-hidden garden gems in our community. Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Griffis for sharing their beautiful garden.

They enjoy working in their yard, and it really shows. Mrs. Griffis is very knowledgeable about plants and has a real enthusiasm for gardening. She said she even attends gardening events in Gainesville. Mr. Griffis says he keeps the lawn mowed.

There are many beautiful plants in the front and side yards. The most prominent feature is a lovely arbor that showcases their Muscadine grapes.

They have so many beautiful plants, but the ones that stand out are a Peggy Martin and a Lady Banks which are thornless roses. Mrs. Griffis is training to work up the arbor. There is a red riding Coraopolis, potato vine that stays green all year and a beautiful Meyer lemon tree that’s a real favorite.

If you would like to nominate someone for Yard of the Month or you would like us to feature your yard or learn more about the Garden Club give Deirdre Murphy a call at 352-281-3026.
