Lake Butler Hospital is redeveloping the Main Street building that formerly housed furniture retailer Badcock.

In a news release, the hospital said its new professional center will host hospital office staff, creating more space on the main campus for patient care and medical services.

In addition, the new facility will become a hub for health programs, community events, and wellness resources aimed at helping residents live healthier, fuller lives.

Hospital leaders say the move is just the first step in a series of changes planned to expand access and strengthen care close to home.

Lake Butler Hospital’s Director of Public Relations, Reid Carswell, stated that once renovations at both the main campus and the professional center are complete, approximately half of the professional center will be offices, and the remaining space will be available for meetings.

“It will be available to do more events with the public,” he said. “I think the overall goal here is to create a more educated, healthier and happier Union County and push our services deeper into the community.”
