Indians fall to 0-2 after 3-1 loss to Santa Fe

Hits were hard to come by, but host Santa Fe was able to score runs on two passed balls and an error in defeating the Keystone Heights High School baseball team 3-1 on Feb. 25.

Each team had only two hits, but the Raiders took a 2-0 lead in the second. After putting runners on with a walk and a single, Santa Fe scored on a passed ball and an error.

The Raiders took advantage of a walk and a passed ball to score again in the sixth.

Keystone (0-2) scored its lone run in the seventh. Noah Branch reached on an error and scored on a ground ball hit by Chase Packham.

Pitchers Gage Smith and Benjamin Goforth combined to give up two hits.

The Indians entered the game off a 6-2 season-opening loss at Clay on Feb. 22.

Keystone, which had only two hits, scored the first two runs. Alex Addington drew a bases-loaded walk in the second, while Jeremy Miller hit a single and scored on an error in the third.

In the bottom of the third, Clay scored five runs, taking advantage of two doubles, two singles, a hit batter and an error.

The Indians travel to play Middleburg on Tuesday, March 1, at 6:30 p.m. and will host Bradford on Thursday, March 3, at 7 p.m. Keystone then hosts Fort White on Tuesday, March 8, at 6 p.m. before traveling to play Bishop Snyder on Wednesday, March 9, at 6 p.m.
