Keystone Heights High School’s softball faced its second straight Class 6A school, falling 13-5 to visiting Oakleaf on Feb. 22.
The Knights, who were a playoff qualifier last season, scored seven runs in the fourth inning to go up 7-1 and added another four runs in the fifth.
Alaina Kinsall, Ashley Nugent and Abbie Roach each went 2 for 4. Roach hit a double and a triple, driving in two runs, while Nugent had one double and one RBI.
Riley Shuford had two RBI, while the Indians also got extra-base hits from Nattallie Glinski (triple) and Kadence Massey (double).
Keystone entered the game off a season-opening 7-6 win over visiting Tocoi Creek on Feb. 20. Nugent’s home run to lead off the bottom of the sixth was the difference.
Massey, who went 2 for 4, hit a two-run double as part of a four-run fifth, which put the Indians ahead 6-5. Roach, who went 2 for 4, and Shuford each hit an RBI single in the inning.
Kinsall and Bella Cumbo each went 2 for 4, with Cumbo driving in one run.
Shuford and Loralei Booth, who hit a triple, each had one RBI.
Starting pitcher Caitlin Frampton held the Toros, who qualified for the playoffs in Class 4A last year, to two runs on four hits through three innings. She had seven strikeouts.
Massey struck out nine in four innings, allowing four runs, seven hits and no walks.
The Indians host Ridgeview, a regional finalist in Class 5A last season, on Monday, Feb. 26, at 6:30 p.m.
