Indians lift way to 2 team titles at Clay County Championships

Prior to beginning its run toward a possible third straight state title at the District 7-1A meet, the Keystone Heights High School boys weightlifting team won both the traditional and Olympic events at the Clay County Championships, which were held March 21 at Oakleaf High School.

The Indians had five individuals win their weight classes in the Olympic event (snatch and clean and jerk): Jed Tisdale (119-pound class) with a 250 total, Reid Begue (139) with a 390 total, Bryar Schenck (183) with a 510 total, Trey Jeffries (219) with a 575 total and Tyler Anthony-Rozier (238) with a 470 total.

Bo Overton and Landon Hovsepian took second and third, respectively, in the 169 class with totals of 490 and 465.

Four other lifters besides Hovsepian placed third: Declan Shine (129) with a 300 total, Wyatt Van Zant (139) with a 380 total, Davin Adams (154) with a 330 total and Brayden Wester (238) with a 415 total.

Bryson Wester (199) earned a fourth-place finish with a 395 total, while the following placed fifth: Elijah Mize (119) with a 220 total, Damien Dunalp (154) with a 310 total and Tyler Duncan (unlimited) with a 425 total.

Three earned sixth-place finishes: Talon Messina (183) with a 335 total, Dakota Roper (199) with a 370 total and Jackson Herman (unlimited) with a 420 total.

Begue, Jeffries and Anthony-Rozier also won championships in the traditional event (bench press and clean and jerk). Begue had a 490 total, while Jeffries and Anthony-Rozier had totals of 700 and 650, respectively.

The traditional event saw three finish as runners-up in their classes: Hovsepian with a 580 total, Schenck with a 550 total and Roper with a 560 total.

Placing third were Shine with a 390 total, Van Zant with a 425 total, Overton with a 575 total and Brayden Wester with a 535 total.

Colton Hollingsworth placed fourth in the 119 class with a 315 total, while the following earned fifth-place finishes: Tisdale with a 285 total and Bryson Wester with a 540 total.

Keystone will host the District 7 meet, which will take place Wednesday, March 29, at 3:45 p.m. The other schools in the district are Beachside, Bishop Snyder, Bradford, Cedar Creek, Eagle’s View, Palatka and Union County.
