Keystone Heights High School’s Caleb Moncrief won two events, while Kendall Gagnon won one at the District 3-2A field-events finals, which were held today at Santa Fe High School.
The running events will be held Thursday, April 21, at 10:30 a.m.
Moncrief won the discus with a throw of 144-8, which put him ahead of Suwannee’s Will Wainwright, who had a throw of 127-4.
In the shot put, Moncrief had a distance of 48-4.5, placing him ahead of Santa Fe’s Connor Wetherington, who had a distance of 47-4.25.
Gagnon recorded her win in the javelin with a distance of 90-9. That put her ahead of Santa Fe’s Riley Baker, who had a distance of 83-10.
The top four in each event earned the right to advance to the Region 1 finals, which will be held Thursday, May 5, at Tommy Oliver Stadium in Panama City. Girls team member Kiersten Shaw earned Region 1 berths in the high jump and the long jump.
Shaw was runner-up in the high jump. She and champion Dariniya Martin of Suwannee each cleared 4-7.75.
In the long jump, Shaw placed third with a distance of 15-7.
Boys team member Shepherd Rozier just missed qualifying in the long jump with a fifth-place distance of 17-9. He was 5.5 inches behind fourth-place finisher Byrcen Boney of Union County.
Gagnon also competed in the discus, placing seventh with a throw of 74-5. Teammates Kinslee Burnaw and Shaylyn Williams placed 12th and 15th, respectively, with distances of 49-11 and 44-8.
Burnaw was 15th in the shot put with a distance of 19-11.
Tyler Duncan and Jackson Herman were sixth and seventh, respectively, in the boys discus with throws of 82-1 and 78-9. Herman was seventh in the shot put (27-10.75), while Duncan was eighth (27-10).
Jaden Park was eighth in the boys long jump (17-4.75).
