Judge rejects plea agreement

STARKE—A judge rejected a plea agreement between an accused drug dealer and prosecutors, offering a longer sentence for the defendant followed by probation, which the accused accepted.

Bradford deputies arrested Jason Solomon Barr, 42, after the defendant sold 0.61 grams of methamphetamine to a confidential source for $60 at a shed behind a Crum Street residence in April.

Barr’s lawyer and prosecutors had reached a plea deal under which Barr would plead to three felonies and be sentenced to 44 months in prison.

However, Circuit Judge James Colaw said he would not accept the plea because Barr was arrested for selling the drugs 20 days after being released from a three-year prison term for the same crime in 2020. Instead, the judge sentenced Barr to 60 months in prison and 18 months of probation.
