KEYSTONE HEIGHTS— The city council voted to increase prices for plots at the city-owned cemetery by $100 at the Clay-Bradford County Line.
City Manager Lynn Rutkowski showed council members a pricing survey that revealed cemeteries in the area charged between $750 and $5,500 for individual plots.
“Currently, the Keystone Heights Cemetery lot is at $900,” she said.
Council member Tony Brown moved to increase the price to $1,000.
“That would still be at the low end of the spectrum,” said Council Member Steve Hart.
The council also set an initial price of $750 for the facility’s new columbarium, which houses cremation ashes.
Rutkowski told the council that niches in columbariums range from $450 to $5,000.
She added that families can put two urns into each niche in the city’s new columbarium, and that engraving would entail additional costs to the family.
The council also set an initial price of $300 for the placement of ashes into a communal ossuary.
Rutkowski said a family can purchase a satchel which is a velvet bag that the cremains can be put into, “and then they’ll be placed into the communal ossuary.”
