Candace Jackson shot an 18-hole score of 85 to lead the Keystone Heights High School girls golf team at the Oct. 31 Region 1-1A finals, which also included Union County High School’s Zoe Elixson.
Jackson, who made par on seven holes, finished in a tie for 16th at the event, which was played at Jacksonville’s Windsor Parke Golf Club.
The top three teams and the top three individuals not on those teams automatically qualified for the state finals, which will be held Friday, Nov. 11, at Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills. An additional four teams and four individuals not on those teams will earn at-large berths, which will be announced at a later date.
Jackson had the sevehth-best score among individuals not on the top three teams.
Keystone placed seventh as a team with a score of 439. That left the Indians trailing Bolles (316), Episcopal (336), Providence (347), Florida High (352), Maclay (375) and Holmes County (438).
The Indians’ M.J. Rivera tied for 25th with a score of 96, which was an eight-stroke improvement from last season’s region finals. She had a birdie and made par on four holes. Mia Rivera, who made par on three holes, shot a 41st-place score of 119, while Rexi Lewis and Rebecca Binet placed 54th and 55th, respectively, with scores of 139 and 142. Binet made par on one hole.
Mia Rivera improved her score from last season’s region finals by one stroke, while Lewis improved hers by seven strokes.
Union’s Elixson shot a 47th-place score of 128.
Holmes County’s Savannah Goodman was the individual champion with a score of 72. Bolles’ Madison Balaskiewicz, St. Johns’ Addy Vogt, St. Joseph’s Danielle Dailey and Providence’s Emma Welll all tied for second, with each shooting a 75.
