Mayor Nina Rodenroth and Councilman Dan Lewandowski, who sit on the city’s budget and finance committee, said they will recommend the maximum proposed millage rate of 3.7902, about $421,000 in income, and 7.8% more than this year, when the fiscal 2026-27 budget comes up in September.
Councilman Ryan Knight objected, calling millage an unsustainable way to fund infrastructure. Four votes are needed to adopt it. A November ballot measure expanding the homestead exemption would cost the city roughly $104,000 in year one.
The council also approved the Comprehensive Plan 2046 first reading, the airport budget, and a Key to the City for Vivian Katz James.
