Elston “Speedy” Kussler, scheduled to be sworn in as Keystone Heights’s newest council member in May, said his top priority is keeping the public safe.
Kussler said he is particularly concerned about pedestrian crossings on South Lawrence Boulevard (State Road 21) with flashing lights.
“They’ve got the flashing lights on 21,” he said. “People push the button, and it creates a false sense of security. You push the button, and cars still don’t stop.”
When asked about the city’s proposed parks plan, part of which would move basketball courts from the city hall area to the municipality’s western edge, the councilman-elect said the plan seems expensive and that the city should focus on its waterfront.
Kussler added that he supports the proposed fishing pier at Keystone Beach Park.
