Pitchers Alex Addington, Ty Glenn and Chase Packham combined to give up three hits and no walks in the Keystone Heights High School baseball team’s 13-0, six-inning win over host Bradford on April 14.
The Indians had three innings in which they scored four runs each: the second, the fourth and the sixth.
Addington and Dalton Hollingsworth each hit an RBI single in the second, which also consisted of Ashton Roach driving in a run on a sacrifice fly and Hollingsworth scoring on a wild pitch.
The fourth inning included RBI singles by Roach and Conner Guy as well as a ground-out RBI by Packham. Ryan Jones scored a run on a wild pitch.
Keystone’s Cole Cumbus and Jesse Stanley drew bases-loaded walks in the sixth inning, which also saw Bryce Hart drive in a run on a single and Glenn driving in another on a sacrifice fly.
Guy, who went 2 for 3, and Roach each finished with two RBI, while Addington, Cumbus, Glenn, Hart, Hollingsworth, Packham and Stanley each had one.
Addington got the start on the mound, giving up one hit in four innings. Glenn and Pakham each pitched one inning, giving up one hit each.
Bradford’s Luke Stucky went 2 for 3.
The Indians (9-11) would lose their next two games by a combined score of 23-4.
On April 15, Keystone pitchers recorded 10 strikeouts, but visiting Fernandina Beach took advantage of 11 hits to defeat the Indians 11-4.
Hollingsworth went 2 for 4 with two doubles and two RBI, while Jeremy Miller hit one double and had two RBI.
The Indians hosted Oakleaf on April 18 and were held to three hits in a 12-0, five-inning loss.
One of Keystone’s hits was a double by Guy.
Bradford (1-13-1) hosted Chiefland on April 18, with the Indians scoring 11 first-inning runs en route to handing the Tornadoes a 15-5, five-inning loss.
The Tornadoes scored all of their runs in the fourth. Jonathan Brugh hit a leadoff double and scored when Michael Byrd reached on an error. Bradford then loaded the bases after a C.J. McKinney single and a Mattox Burgin walk. Kacen Thomassen was hit by a pitch to force a run in. Three runs then scored when Dalton Griffis reached on an error.
Bradford was held to four hits, with Brugh going 2 for 3.
Keystone travels to play Orange Park on Tuesday, April 19, at 7 p.m. and will host Palatka on Friday, April 22, at 7 p.m. The Indians host Middleburg on Monday, April 25, at 7 p.m. and then host Tocoi Creek on Tuesday, April 26, at 7 p.m.
The Tornadoes host Tocoi Creek on Wednesday, April 20, at 6:30 p.m. and will host Union County on Thursday, April 21, at 6:30 p.m. Bradford travels to play Baker County on Tuesday, April 26, at 7 p.m.
