KHHS boys golf team edges BHS by 1 stroke

Bradford High School’s Grady Johnson was the medalist, but the Keystone Heights High School boys golf team had four individuals place in the top seven en route to winning an Oct. 7 tri-match at the Starke Golf and Country Club.

The Indians had a team score of 179 to finish one stroke ahead of the Tornadoes. Branford had a third-place score of 200.

Johnson led the field, shooting a birdie and making par on five holes to finish with a score of 39.

Not much separated the individual scores near the top. Keystone’s Alex Addington had a second-place score of 41, shooting a birdie and making par on three holes, while Bradford’s Jonathan Brugh had a third-place score of 42, making par on three holes.

The Indians’ Nicholas Williams and Hunter Sheppard placed fourth and sixth, respectively, while Logan Spence tied for seventh. Williams had a birdie and made par on one hole to finish with a score of 44, while Sheppard had a birdie and made par on two holes to finish with a score of 46. Spence, who made par on one hole, had a score of 48.

Jacob Brugh and Tommy Padgett added to the Tornadoes’ final score with ninth- and 10th-place finishes, respectively. Brugh made par on three holes to finish at 49, while Padgett made par on two holes to finish at 50.

Bradford and Keystone each had two additional individuals who played. Shepherd Rozier and Nick Binet placed 11th and 12th, respectively, for the Indians with scores of 51 and 52, while Cassidy Spratlin and Hayden Knight placed 16th and 17th, respectively, for the Tornadoes with scores of 57 and 58. Rozier made par on two holes, while Binet and Spratlin each made par on one.

The Tornadoes were coming off a second-place finish at an Oct. 5 home match. Bradford had a score of 192 to finish 19 strokes behind Middleburg and 10 strokes ahead of Gainesville.

Johns and Jacob Brugh each shot a third-place score of 45. Brugh had an eagle and made par on one hole, while Johnson made par on three holes.

Jonathan Brugh, who made par on one hole, shot a sixth-place score of 47, while Padgett, who also made par on one hole, shot a 12th-place score of 55.

Spratlin had a 13th-place score of 60, while Zachary Clatyon tied for 14th with a score of 61.

Keystone also played a match on Oct. 5, placing third behind host Oak Hall and Trenton at Hawkstone Country Club. The Indians had a score of 195, which was 34 strokes behind Oak Hall and 15 strokes behind Trenton.

Binet, who made par on one hole, tied for eighth with a score of 46. Addington and Williams, who made par on one hole, placed 11th and 12th, respectively, with scores of 48 and 50.

Spence, Rozier and Sheppard each shot a 13th-place score of 51. Spence had a birdie and made par on one hole, while Sheppard made par on one hole.
