KHHS boys golfers open with wins over BHS, Ridgeview

All of Keystone Heights High School’s boys golfers — including medalist Ty Mitzel — finished in the top 10 as the Indians opened the season with a win over visiting Bradford and Ridgeview on Aug. 21.

Keystone had a team score of 158, which was 34 strokes better than Ridgeview. Bradford finished with a score of 229.

Mitzel birdied one hole and shot par on six others to finish at 37, which put him two strokes ahead of teammate Alex Addington and Ridgeview’s Joseph Derosa. Addington shot par on six holes.

The Indians’ Nic Binet and Connor Guy placed fourth and fifth, respectively, with scores of 40 and 42. Each shot par on four holes, with Binet also recording one birdie.

Bradford’s Charles Zink finished with a sixth-place score of 43, shooting par on five holes.

Keystone’s Jacob Beach had a birdie and shot par on two holes to place seventh with a score of 44. Teammate Hunter Sheppard, who shot par on three holes, had a ninth-place score of 48.

The Tornadoes’ Robert Halsey had a 12th-place score of 58. Four of his teammates finished 14th-17th: Kaylee Devore (63), Avery Burgin (65), Jeffrey Brugh (66) and Jaylen Hampton (69).

Keystone entered the match off the preseason, 18-hole Suwannee Dog Days Invitational on Aug. 18 in Lake City, placing fourth with a team score of 335. Florida High topped the five-team field with a score of 304, followed by Suwannee (318) and Columbia (332).

Lafayette finished at 419 to place behind Keystone.

Guy had two birdies and shot par on 11 holes to finish with a fifth-place score of 77, while Binet shot par on eight holes to place ninth with a score of 82.

Addington was 14th with a score of 86. He had a birdie and shot par on nine holes.

Mitzel and Beach were 19th and 20th, respectively, with scores of 90 and 92. Mitzel had a birdie and shot par on six holes, while Beach shot par on three holes.
