KHHS boys weightlifters win Clay County Championships

Keystone Heights High School took the top two spots in three weight classes and had five individual winners in all in winning the Clay County Boys Weightlifting Championships, which Keystone hosted on March 25.

The Indians, the defending 1A state champ, totaled 85 points to finish ahead of 3A Fleming Island (41), 3A Oakleaf (41), 2A Orange Park (18), 2A Middleburg (17), 2A Ridgeview (14) and 2A Clay (4).

Keystone took the top two spots in the 154, 169 and 219 classes, which gave the Indians 12 points in each class. Ulysses Freed won the 154 class with a 520 total (275 bench press, 245 clean and jerk), while Landon Hovsepian was second with a 510 total (255, 255). In the 169 class, it was Nathan Tisdale placing first with a 595 total (300, 295) and Logan Williams finishing second with a 580 total (320, 260). Tyler Anthony-Rozier’s 635 total (350, 285) topped the 219 class, with Trey Jeffries taking second with a 620 total (320, 300).

Caleb Moncrief won the 238 class with a 650 total (315, 335), while Mason Dicks won the unlimited class with a 680 total (330, 350).

Two Keystone lifters tied for first in their classes, but were awarded second place due to the weigh-in tiebreaker. Wyatt Van Zant and Orange Park’s Cam Griffith each had a 420 total to top the 129 class, but Griffith weighed in at 2.8 pounds less than Van Zant, who had a 195 bench press and a 225 clean and jerk. Zach Glover had a 500 total (275, 225) in the 1399 class, which tied him with Fleming Island’s Justin Nolley, who weighed in at 1.4 pounds less than Glover.

Tyler Jenkins earned a second-place finish as well with a 590 total (315, 275) in the 183 class.

Three Keystone lifters placed third: Declan Shine with a 300 total (160, 140) in the 119 class, Bryson Wester with a 530 total (280, 250) in the 199 class and Luke Snider with a 640 total (325, 315) in the unlimited class.

Jed Tisdale placed fifth in the 119 class with a 260 total (135, 125), while the following placed sixth: Clayton Kicklighter with a 520 total (280, 240) in the 183 class and Brayden Wester with a 475 total (245, 230) in the 238 class.
