KHHS defeats Oakleaf in 5 sets, now 4-2

Keystone Heights High School’s volleyball team snapped a two-match losing streak, defeating Class 6A Oakleaf 3-2 (25-19, 25-23, 27-29, 25-27, 17-15) on Sept. 8 in Orange Park.

The Class 4A Indians (4-2) got 11 kills, seven digs and four service aces from Kamryn Eatmon, while Riley Barry and Sarah Siebert made their presence felt at the net with five and seven blocks, respectively. Barry also had eight kills, while Siebert had seven.

Kori Jennings recorded 25 assists, while Jules Padgett had nine to go along with her team-high 13 digs. Kadence Carlton added six digs, while Taylor Marquart had four aces.

Keystone suffered its first loss on Sept. 1, falling 3-1 (25-20, 13-25, 25-17, 25-21) to visiting Bolles. Jennings had 34 assists to go along with six kills and four aces, while Eatmon led the team in kills with 10. Siebert and Kiersten Shaw each had eight kills, with Siebert also recording four blocks. Barry had six kills.

Padgett recorded 19 digs, while Kaitlin Brown had two blocks. Carlton and Marquart had four and three aces, respectively.

The Indians hosted Class 5A Clay on Sept. 6, losing 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-17). Siebert had six kills and four blocks, while Barry and Shaw each had five kills. Jennings had 20 assists and two blocks, with Padgett adding 11 digs and three aces.

Keystone hosts Newberry on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 6:30 p.m. and travels to play Palatka on Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 6:30 p.m. Junior varsity teams will play at 5:30 p.m. prior to each match.

The Indians will play in the Jacksonville Juniors Volleyball Association River City Classic on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 16-17, at the JJVA Training Center at 8457 Western Way in Jacksonville.

Keystone travels to play Union County on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 6:30 p.m., following a junior varsity match at 5:30 p.m.
