Keystone Heights High School’s Saige Dennis defeated two opponents and fell one match shy of competing for third place at the inaugural regional girls wrestling finals on Feb. 19 at North Bay Haven High School.
Dennis, wrestling in the 145-pound class, lost her first match by a 16-1 technical fall against Lake Brantley’s Lanyla Hudspeth. She then pinned Baker County’s Savannah Powell in 2:37 and Ponte Vedra’s Mira Schmidt in 4:09. Mosley’s Savannah Pitts handed Dennis a 20-11 major-decision loss, preventing her from reaching the third-place match.
Keystone’s Stamatia Papainannou also competed, wrestling in the 140 class. She was pinned twice by Hagerty’s Jada Llamido (39 seconds) and Florida High’s Jaylyn Middleton (4:14).
