The higher seed won each game in the District 4-3A girls soccer tournament, which meant that in the championship match, second-seed Keystone Heights High School fell to top-seed P.K. Yonge, losing 8-0 on Jan. 29 in Newberry.
P.K. Yonge (12-1-2) earned one of the four automatic-qualifying spots in the upcoming Region 1 tournament, which begins with quarterfinal matches on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m.
Four at-large qualifiers, selected based upon state rankings, will round out the Region 1 field. The Indians (15-6-3) entered the District 4 tournament as the eighth-ranked team in Region 1.
Keystone began play in the District 4 tournament with a quarterfinal match on Jan. 26, getting five goals from Ella Hutchins and four from Kiersten Shaw in defeating seventh-seed Interlachen 11-0.
Sydnie Colaw, who scored the other two goals shared the team lead in assists with Elizabeth Waughon. Each had two.
Hutchins also recorded an assist.
Goalie Miranda Yow made three saves.
The Indians then took on third-seed Trinity Catholic for the right to advance to the championship match. Shaw scored three goals in a 5-3 win on Jan. 27.
Kendall Gagnon and Raegan Hogg each added a goal, while Hutchins had two assists.
Yow again made three saves.
P.K. Yonge, which had a first-round bye before defeating fourth-seed Newberry 8-0 in the semifinals, held an opponent scoreless for the 11th straight match in shutting out Keystone. Buchholz was the last team to score against P.K. Yonge, accomplishing the feat with a 4-1 win on Nov. 30.
The Blue Wave has allowed six goals all season.
Yow made 10 saves for the Indians.
