KHHS girls go 1-2 in Navarre tournament

After dropping its first two games, the Keystone Heights High School girls basketball team got 22 points from Kiley Channell and double-doubles from Dezaray Bright and Kaitlin Brown in defeating West Carroll (Atwood, Tennessee) 54-42 on Dec. 29 at the Navarre Beach Holiday Classic.

The Indians (10-5) opened play in the tournament with a 57-41 loss to Navarre on Dec. 27. Bright had 15 points, 15 rebounds and six steals, while Brown and Channell each had six points. Channell also added five assists.

Yasmin Bryant and McKinlee Kirkland scored five and three points, respectively, while Alana Anderson, Jaynell Hill and Rexi Lewis each had two points.

Bryant scored a team-high 16 points and had seven rebounds in the Indians next tournament game — a 42-40 loss to Milton Central on Dec. 28.

Bright had 12 points and 13 rebounds to go along with three assists, while Channell added six points, six rebounds and six assists.

Hill grabbed six rebounds and had four points, while Brown and Kadence Massey each chipped in one point.

Besides leading Keystone in scoring, Channell had six rebounds, three assists and three steals in the Dec. 29 win over West Carroll. Bright had 15 points, 12 rebounds and four assists, while Brown had 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Bryant and Hill each scored two points, with Hill also grabbing seven rebounds.

The Indians entered the tournament off a 47-41 win over visiting Palatka on Dec. 19. Channell scored 20 points in surpassing 1,000 for her career. She also grabbed 10 rebounds and had six steals.

Bright scored 15 points and had 17 rebounds and five steals. Anderson and Bryant scored six and five points, respectively, with Bryant also dishing out three assists.

Hill added one point, while Brown grabbed eight rebounds.

The Indians travel to play Clay on Thursday, Jan. 5, at 7 p.m. They return home Friday, Jan. 6, to play Middleburg at 7:30 p.m.
