Keystone Heights High School fell one spot shy of earning an automatic berth to regionals with a third-place finish at the District 5-1A girls golf tournament, which was held Oct. 27 in Chiefland.
The top two teams in each district earn the right to advance, while an additional four teams in each region will receive at-large bids.
Oak Hall won the District 5 championship, topping seven teams with an 18-hole score of 371, while Chiefland was runner-up with a score of 433.
The Indians finished at 450, which was 29 strokes better than fourth-place finisher St. Joseph of St. Augustine.
Keystone’s Aubrey Brooks earned a top-five finish in a field that consisted of 40 individuals. She and Oak Hall’s Jana Oosthuizen each had a score of 94 to tie for fifth. Brooks made par on two holes.
Rebecca Binet shot a 112 to finish in a two-way tie for 15th, while Amber Wagner and Zoey Gill were 22nd and 23rd, respectively, with scores of 121 and 123. Wagner and Gill each made par on one hole.
Jillian Huntley had a 26th-place score of 128.
Danielle Dailey of St. Joseph was the individual district champ. She had two birdies and made par on 12 holes to finish with a score of 75 (three over par).
Brooks had a couple of impressive outings for Keystone in the final week of the regular season, including making an eagle in an Oct. 21 match against Columbia in Lake City. She made par on two holes in finishing with a fourth-place score of 44.
Wagner shot a sixth-place score of 60, while Binet finished in a two-way tie for seventh with a score of 61.
Huntley had a 10th-place score of 67, while Gill and Bryley Lee each shot a 68 to tie for 11th.
Columbia won the match with a team score of 171 to Keystone’s 232.
Brooks earned medalist honors in an Oct. 23 match against Newberry in Alachua.
Keystone finished with a team score of 230, while Newberry didn’t field a full team.
Brooks made par on one hole in recording the match-best score of 50, while Binet, who also made par on one hole, finished in second with a score of 54.
Gill took third with a score of 61, while Huntley, Lee and Wagner each shot a 65 to tie for fifth.
