KHHS girls soccer team ends a 1-1-1 week with loss to Fernandina

It was a 1-1-1 week for the Keystone Heights High School girls soccer team, ending with a 7-1 loss to host Fernandina Beach on Nov. 14.

The Indians’ lone goal was scored by Tayler Buchanan off a Kayle Buchanan assist.

Keystone (2-3-1) began the week with a 2-2 tie against visiting Suwanee on Nov. 10. Kayden Huntley scored off a Tayler Buchanan assist, while Halea Lam scored off a Huntley assist. Goalie Xana Briley made seven saves.

Huntley scored three goals in the Indians’ 4-0 win over host Crescent City on Nov. 12. Lam scored the other goal, while Tayler Buchanan recorded two assists. Parker Collins and Alyssa Townsend each had one assist.

Briley made one save.

Keystone’s junior varsity team finished in a 2-2 tie against Suwannee on Nov. 10, with Juliette Marini scoring off a Ryleigh Thomas assist and Thomas scoring off a Marini assist. Goalie Sophia Candelario-Garcia made 10 saves.

The JV Indians defeated Crescent City 6-0 on Nov. 12, getting three goals from Jalynn Kurtzo and one goal each from Abbygelle McGee, Akyria Wilson and Callie Yerkes. Marini recorded two assists, while Aleah Hallberg had one.

Both JV and varsity teams will host Buchholz on Wednesday, Nov. 19, with the JV match starting at 5:30, followed by the varsity match at 7:20 p.m. Keystone then won’t play again until Monday, Dec. 1, when the JV and varsity teams host Branford at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
