Keystone Heights High School hosted Williston in a soccer doubleheader on Jan. 9, with the girls team winning 3-1 and the boys team losing 4-1.
The girls team fell behind 1-0 when Williston scored a goal in the 22nd minute. The Red Devils just missed on a goal attempt in the 35th minute that would’ve put them up 2-0.
Keystone’s Kiersten Shaw was successful on a penalty kick in the 37th minute to even the score.
Shaw almost scored early in the second half when she corralled a rebound off an Alee Horton shot attempt, but instead, the score remained tied until the 56th minute when Lizzie Waughon scored to put the Indians ahead.
The final goal was scored by Shaw in the 70th minute. Shaw now has 53 goals on the season, which puts her at second in the state among players’ whose stats are recorded on MaxPreps.
Horton had an assist on one of the goals, while goalkeepers Aspen Krohn and Miranda Yow made five and three saves, respectively.
It was the fifth win in a row for Keystone (13-4), which will host Fort White on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 5 p.m. and then host Middleburg on Thursday, Jan. 12, at 7:20 p.m. The Indians host Newberry on Friday, Jan. 13, at 5 p.m. and Baker County on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 7:20 p.m.
The boys team played a Williston team whose only loss occurred in November. Keystone was able to go into halftime tied at 1-1, but the Red Devils scored three goals in the second half to improve to 11-1-1.
Keystone (7-4-2) got a couple of nice saves from goalkeeper Carson Eatmon in keeping it a scoreless match. Logan Spence just missed on an attempt on goal that would’ve put the Indians ahead 1-0. Instead, it was Williston that scored first, taking advantage of a corner kick.
The Indians’ Skylar Kedgley was able to even it up with a goal off a Spence assist. Less than a minute later, the Williston goalkeeper made a save on a solid attempt by Aaron Wiley to prevent Keystone from taking a 2-1 lead.
The Indians host Fort White on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 7:20 p.m. and will host Newberry on Friday, Jan. 13, at 7 p.m. Keystone hosts Interlachen on Monday, Jan. 16, at 7 p.m. and Baker County on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 5:30 p.m.
