Candace Jackson finished as match medalist, helping the Keystone Heights High School girls golf team capture the District 3-1A trophy on Oct. 25 in Lake City.
It was the seventh district championship in eight years for Keystone, which had an 18-hole team score of 411, putting the Indians 91 strokes ahead of Branford and 145 strokes ahead of Taylor County.
All three teams will advance to the Region 1 tournament, which will be held Monday, Oct. 31, at Jacksonville’s Windsor Parke Golf Club at 8:30 a.m.
The top three individuals not on a region-qualifying team earned the right to advance, too. That means Union County’s Zoe Elixson will be moving on after her sixth-place finish.
Keystone’s Jackson captured the individual district title for the second straight year, making par on 12 holes and finishing with a score of 77. That put her in first place by four strokes.
The Indians’ M.J. Rivera and Mia Rivera placed fourth and fifth, respectively, with scores of 98 and 107. M.J. Rivera, who made par on two holes, improved her score from last year’s tournament by seven strokes. Mia Rivera, who had a birdie, improved upon last year’s score by 25 strokes.
Union’s Elixson had the second-lowest score among individuals not on region-qualifying teams. She made par on two holes and finished with a score of 110.
Keystone’s Rebecca Binet and Rexi Lewis placed 10th and 12th, respectively, with scores of 129 and 134. Binet made par on one hole, while Lewis, who competed in the district tournament last year, improved her score by five strokes.
