KHHS improves to 16-4 in girls soccer with win over Newberry

The Keystone Heights High School girls soccer team won its eighth straight match and made it a memorable Senior Night for Kendall Gagnon, Carly Rogers, Lizzie Waughon and Miranda Yow in defeating visiting Newberry 4-0 on Jan. 13.

The Indians (16-4) got one goal each from Waughon, Dallas DeCrosta, Ella Hutchins and Kiersten Shaw, while goalkeeper Aspen Krohn made six saves.

Shaw, based upon stats uploaded to MaxPreps, still remains second in the state in goals scored. She has 57, which leaves her trailing Poinciana’s Valerie Correa by 12. Glades Day’s Hana Lohmann is third in the state with 48 goals.

Keystone, which has won 11 of its last 12, entered the Newberry match off home wins over Fort White on Jan. 10 and Middleburg on Jan. 12.

Shaw scored four goals and had two assists in an 8-0 win over Fort White. Hutchins and Alee Horton scored two goals each, with Horton also recording a team-high three assists. Hutchins had two assists.

Krohn made three saves.

In a 4-1 win over Middleburg, Shaw scored two goals and had two assists, while Gagnon and Hutchins each scored one goal.

Yow made four saves.

The week also saw the junior varsity team go 1-0-1, with the win coming by a score of 6-1 over visiting Palatka on Jan. 11. Tayler Buchanan scored four goals, while Madison Brinson and Kaleigh Coffey scored one each. Jaylynn Kurtzo had two assists, while the following had one each: Buchanan, Olivia Griffin, Ashly McCarthy and Alexis Taylor. Xana Briley made three saves.

Keystone concludes the regular season with a home match against Crescent City on Thursday, Jan. 19. The JV teams play at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity matchup at 7:20 p.m.
