KHHS soccer teams get wins after break

Four Keystone Heights High School soccer teams returned from the Thanksgiving break with wins, including the varsity boys and girls teams defeating visiting Branford 4-1 and 8-0, respectively, on Dec. 1.

Nathan Benson, Luke Buchanan, Trenton Noble and Sammy Wacha each scored a goal in the varsity boys match, with Wacha’s coming on a penalty kick. Noble and Ryder Thomas each had one assist.

Keystone, which is now 4-4-1, will host  Nease on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 7:20 p.m., following a junior varsity match at 5:30 p.m. The JV and varsity teams will travel to play P.K. Yonge on Friday, Dec. 5, at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. The varsity team travels to play Trenton on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. and returns home to play Fernandina Beach on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 7:20 p.m.

The varsity girls team (3-3-2) got two goals each from Tayler Buchanan and Kaylee Park, while the following had one each: Parker Collins Kayden Huntley, Halea Lam and Kylie Norman. Buchanan and Kayle Buchanan each had two assists, with Huntley and Lam each adding one assist.

Goalie Xana Briley made 10 saves.

The JV girls team (3-1-1) defeated Branford 8-0, with Melody Tyre and Juliette Marini scoring three and two goals, respectively. Jalynn Kurtzo, Callie Yerkes and Akyria Wilson each had one goal.

Kurtzo, Yerkes and Rebecca Lugo each had one assist.

Keystone’s JV and varsity girls teams host Ridgeview on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 5:30 p.m. and 7:20 p.m. and then host Columbia on Thursday, Dec. 4, at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. On Monday, Dec. 8, the JV and varsity teams host Palatka at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The varsity girls team travels to play Trenton on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 5 p.m.

Keystone’s junior high boys team improved to 3-1-1 with a 4-2 win at P.K. Yonge on Dec. 1. Bentley Tillman scored two goals, while Nico Jaramillo and Caleb Matuschke each had one. Jaramillo, Levi Adams and Tripp Dugat each had one assist.
