KHHS softball team falls 11-0 to 3A Eustis

Keystone Heights High School’s softball team was no match for the seventh-ranked team in Class 3A, losing 11-0 in five innings to Eustis on April 21 in Eustis.

The Class 2A Indians (7-14) had no hits off pitchers Brooke Mansfield and Carson Roden, who also combined to allow no walks.

Eustis, meanwhile, had 14 hits, including three home runs that accounted for five runs.

Keystone went 1-1 in its previous two games, beginning with a 9-4 loss to visiting Santa Fe on April 15.

The Indians trailed 3-0 before Kaleigh Maquart hit a two-out single in the second that scored Chloe Still, who reached on a one-out single.

Santa Fe scored six runs in the fourth and fifth innings to go up 9-1.

Tayler Buchanan hit an RBI single in the fifth that scored Maddi Glinski, who doubled, while the Indians scored two runs on errors in the sixth.

Amber Wagner, who went 2 for 4 with a double, was Keystone’s only batter with multiple hits.

The Indians defeated the 17th-ranked team in Class 7A, with Wagner scoring the game’s lone run on a steal of home in a 1-0 win over host Bartram Trail on April 17.

Wagner had one of the Indians’ three hits with a single to lead off the top of the second. She advanced to second on a Bailey Amato sacrifice before Still drew a walk. Wagner then scored while Still was caught stealing second.

Buchanan had the rest of Keystone’s hits, going 2 for 3.

Kadence Massey pitched a complete game, allowing four hits and two walks, while striking out five.

The Indians travel to play Bradford on Tuesday, April 22, at 6 p.m. and will conclude the regular season with a home game against Ridgeview on Wednesday, April 23, at 6 p.m.

Keystone will next play in the District 5-2A tournament. Matchups and times weren’t known by deadline.
