KHHS volleyball team sweeps Hawthorne

Keystone Heights High School’s volleyball team defeated visiting Hawthorne 3-0 (25-9, 25-11, 25-8) on Oct. 6, improving to 15-8.

The Indians went 1-1 in their two previous matches.

On Sept. 30, they lost 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-23) to visiting Newberry, getting 11 kills from Mia Rivera and 10 kills and 10 digs from Kadence Massey.

Kaleigh Marquart had 28 assists, while Rachel Blank and Bella Cumbo each had six digs.

Mackenzie Castevecchi had two blocks.

Keystone bounced back for a 3-1 (25-21, 25-19, 25-27, 25-22) win at Palatka on Oct. 2.

Rivera had 22 kills, eight digs and two blocks, while Massey had 15 digs, nine kills and five aces.

Castevecchi added five kills, while Cumbo had 12 digs.

Marquart recorded 38 assists, while Kaylyn Chapman had two blocks.

The Indians host Interlachen on Tuesday, Oct. 7, and will end the regular season at Clay on Wednesday, Oct. 8. Matches are  7 p.m., following junior varsity matches at 6 p.m.

Keystone will play in the District 5-3A tournament next week. Seedings and matchups will be announced later.
