Keystone Heights High School’s volleyball team defeated visiting Bradford 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-15) on Sept. 26 for its third straight win and fifth win in its last six matches.
The Indians (11-5) scored the first seven points of the first set with Taylor Marquart serving, getting kills from Caitlin Brown and Kiersten Shaw. Kamryn Eatmon and Sarah Siebert had consecutive kills later in the set to put Keystone up 20-13.
Bradford (1-8) got a block and a kill from Arnayshia Griffin before the Indians closed out the set with a Siebert kill.
Keystone scored eight straight points with Kori Jennings serving to take a 9-0 lead in the second set. Shaw and Riley Barry each had a kill during that span.
The Indians would go on to build a 20-7 lead, getting kills from Shaw and Abbie Roach, a block by Siebert and service aces by Shaw and Jules Padgett.
Bradford got a kill from Ajiyah Jackson and an ace from Reagan Harris late in the set before Keystone won on a passing error.
It was the Tornadoes getting off to a fast start in the third set, scoring four points with Takeirra Bakken serving to go up 5-0. Keystone pulled to within 7-4, getting a kill from Eatmon, a block from Siebert and an ace by Jennings. The Indians then scored eight straight points with Eatmon serving to take a 15-8 lead. Eatmon had two aces during that span, which also included two kills by Siebert.
Barry and Siebert each had a kill late in the set before Keystone earned the win on a Jennings ace.
Shaw finished with eight kills, while Barry and Siebert each had seven. Siebert also had four blocks, while Shaw had two aces.
Padgett and Sammi Potter had nine and eight digs, respectively, while Eatmon finished with four aces.
Marquart led the team in assists with 13, while Jennings had 12 to go along with two aces.
The Telegraph-Times-Monitor, despite requests, has been unsuccessful in obtaining Bradford stats.
Keystone entered the match off a 3-0 win over visiting Umatilla on Sept. 22. Jennings recorded 22 assists and 11 aces, while Shaw had eight kills and five aces. Barry and Siebert each had three blocks, with Barry adding seven kills and Siebert adding five kills. Padgett had 11 digs.
The Indians host Baker County on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 6:30 p.m. and are scheduled to travel to play Orange Park on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m., though Hurricane Ian could prevent the match from being played.
Bradford travels to play Palatka on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m. and will travel to play Hilliard on Monday, Oct. 3, at 6:30 p.m. The Tornadoes then travel to play Interlachen on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 6:30 p.m.
