Keystone Heights High School’s colors are blue and white, but orange was the color of the night on Sept. 13 when the Indians defeated visiting Newberry 3-1 (25-16, 22-25, 25-21, 25-19) in an “Orange Out” match.
September is Leukemia Awareness Month and is represented by the color orange. Keystone was playing the match in honor of local teacher Jennifer Fender, who is the mother of player Kori Jennings and Assistant Coach Jordan Jennings.
The Indians got 10 kills, five blocks and five digs from Kiersten Shaw, while Sarah Sibert had nine kills and three blocks. Kamryn Eatmon and Riley Barry had nine and eight kills, respectively, with Barry adding seven blocks and four service aces.
Jennings recorded 37 assists to go along with six kills and four aces.
Jules Padgett led the team in digs with 14, while Kadence Carlton had six.
Keystone improved to 6-2 with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-14, 25-18, 25-18) win over host Palatka on Sept. 14. Eatmon and Siebert each had 10 kills, with Eatmon adding three aces and Siebert adding two blocks.
Jennings had 32 assists, nine kills and five digs, while Barry had eight kills and four aces.
Padgett had 11 digs, while Carlton and Shaw each had seven.
Taylor Marquart added four aces.
The Indians played in the Jacksonville Juniors Volleyball Association River City Classic this past weekend and travel to play Union County Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 6:30 p.m. Keystone hosts Umatilla on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 6:30 p.m. and will host Bradford on Monday, Sept. 26, at 6:30 p.m. The Indians then host Baker County on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 6:30 p.m.
