King recognized for lifetime conservation

MELROSE— Santa Fe Audubon presented its founder and first president with a Lifetime Conservation Award during the group’s annual meeting on March 14 in Melrose.

Prior to serving as Santa Fe Audubon’s president, conservation chair and director, Joyce King served in the Pelican Island Audubon Society in Indian River County.

She has also served as a director for both the National Audubon Society and Audubon Florida.

During the annual meeting, members elected board members for the two fiscal years ending in March 2025.

Directors serving through 2024 are Sallie Carlock, Celina Rohman, Jacqueline Williamson and Bettina Moser. Directors serving through 2025 are Laura Berkelman, M. Anne Pierce, Joy Segall, Bill Chitty and Betty Rosenblatt.

The meeting also included a members’ photography show and remarks on the group’s current activities, such as the Southeastern Kestrel nest box program, which now includes banding and radio-tagging of some fledglings.
