Lake Butler proposes 17% tax increase

LAKE BUTLER—Lake Butler City Commissioners approved the first reading of its 2023-2024 millage rate and budget after a public hearing on Thursday, Sept. 14.

Commissioners passed a millage rate of 3.25 mills, 17% higher than the rollback rate of 2.9564 mills. The rollback rate is the millage that would bring in the same revenue to the city as the previous year.

The panel also approved the first reading of Lake Butler’s 2023-2024 budget without comment. No members of the public spoke during the hearings on the tax rate or the budget.

A second and final public hearing and vote will be held to finalize the revenue and spending plans.
