KEYSTONE HEIGHTS—In addition to the many 4-H clubs that meet across Clay County and the Clovers Custom Creations group that meets at the Woman’s Club of Keystone Heights, 4-H has two clubs that meet after school at the area’s two elementary schools.
The Keystone Indians meet at Keystone Heights Elementary School, and McRae Mavericks gather monthly at McRae Elementary.
The Keystone Indians recently held their first meeting of the school year in which the group went over 4-H basics, like what 4-H is, the meaning of the 4-H pledge, and what the club hopes to accomplish this year.
Leader Jennifer Jones said the group plans to enter a plant and a small animal in the fair, like a chicken. She added that individual club members may also enter small animals in the April 2024 event.
Over the past calendar year, the McRae group has made Christmas ornaments for Park of the Palms residents, hosted a lesson on stars and constellations, had a visit from a 4-H beekeeper, grown a garden on campus, and participated in a robotics competition.
