LBMS boys roll into conference semifinals with 61-16 victory

Lake Butler Middle School scored 32 points in the first quarter of what was an eventual 61-16 win over Fort White in the quarterfinals of the Suwannee Middle Athletic Conference boys basketball tournament on Jan. 22 in Keystone Heights.

The second seed Tigers will play third seed Bradford in a semifinal game on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m. in the Keystone Heights High School gym.

Fort White, the seventh seed, won the opening tip and scored, but the rest of the game was all Tigers. Garrison Smith made three three-pointers en route to scoring 11 in the first quarter. Cayden Harold had seven points in the quarter as Lake Butler took a 25-point lead into the second quarter.

The Tigers continued to roll. Jackson Andersen-Davis scored off a Dempsey Rike steal. Another turnover led to a three-pointer by A.J. Chandler and a 38-8 lead.

Tyrese Chandler scored off two consecutive turnovers to close out the first half, with Lake Butler leading 45-10.

Harold and Smith each finished with a game-high 12 points. Andersen-Davis had eight points, while A.J. Chandler, Tyrese Chandler and Gavyn Smith each scored seven.

The Tigers also got six points from Darrell Merriex and two from Rike.
