A fun time was had by all at the library’s annual end of summer water party on July 21st!

Each year a host of local organizations attend, set up tables and give away fun goodies to the children and families. Agencies that attended and helped to make this year’s event a success include: Union County Health Department, Union County 4-H, Union County Supervisor of Elections, Guardian Ad Litem, Alachua County Victims Advocate, Florida Center for Independent Living. Additionally, a new feature this year included representatives from Jacksonville Disc Golf Club – New World Sports and Gainesville Disc Golf Club – Gainesville Chain Hawks. Golf pros were on hand to give away lots of discs and prizes and show kids and adults how to throw discs in baskets.

A big hit each year with the children includes a giant water slide and the appearance of the Union County Fire Department with their giant firetruck spraying water.

The Union County Friends of the Library provided hotdogs and refreshments and the New River Public Library Cooperative helped out with overall funding for this big event. Volunteers are pooled from the teen organization, Junior Friends of the Library.

“The library staff and volunteers work very hard each year to bring fun, quality programming to our community. We always look forward to our annual water party – it’s a winner every time!” stated Library Director, Mary Brown.
